Strut Gland Nut Removal

Post by rocketscience »

I was having a hard time getting my gland nuts loose, mostly because I didn't have a pipe wrench big enough for it, so I secured the nut in my vice and wedged a chair into the bottom of it. Made it a piece of cake!

great, good way to improvise. I have done things like that. but I try and avoid using the furniture, lest I get chewed out by my spouse.

Yeaaah, that chair is one of the only pieces of furniture that is 'mine.' My girlfriend actually took the picture. I'm sure a 2x4 would have worked great too if I'd had one.

Reminds me of my first few years living on my own after I turned 18 and moved out. My only tool was a steak knife with the tip broken off (I'm not joking). I used it as a saw, screwdriver, prybar, etc... I think I actually still have it somewhere. I think your tool (a chair!) has beat my steak knife.

Plus your chair would make a better hammer than my steak knife.

You can even use it as a chair, its is a lot better for sitting on than a steak knife too!

Though if you actually had an steak to cut, the chair would not be very helpful.

Rocketscience lives up to his name in this thread. ;)

Honestly, if it works, it's not stupid. Heck, this might be the greatest mission that the chair will ever be involved in.
But...did you try hitting it with a hammer?

I think my friends had a steak knife just like that the last place I lived in Idaho, missing tip and all.
