Best source for a radiator?

That's the exact part # I ordered from Rockauto for my '86 with a/c and p/s. It is plastic tanked with two nipples on the bottom for auto trans cooler lines (I assume). You can use these for an oil cooler if you want. I'm sure it will work for your car if the rad hose ports are in the correct locations. Plastic tank rads seem to be the industry standard now; it will prolly last 10+ years (with a lifetime warranty to boot) so I would go for it.
It's a scientific fact that in a twin engine aircraft, when one engine fails there is always enough power in the remaining engine to make it all the way to the crash site.

Get a rad from Koyo, they are an OE supplier to Toyota. They have become the go-to aftermarket brand here in the US for quality pro shops servicing both import and domestic cars with new rads.

I did a search on your car at the above website and the rad that came up was for the '87-'88 Tercel. Sounds about right, no? Since the odds that they made the original rad in your car in the first place are about 100%, my guess is that they can fit your car correctly the first time. The Koyo rad that I put in my '85 T4wd a while back fit perfectly.

Did the Koyo search as you suggested, but when I clicked on "details", a sketch appears that shows a radiator that is not the same as mine. Maybe 2WD's radiators are different from 4WD!? My inlet and outlet hose connectors are both on the passenger-side. Another minor detail is the overflow tube connector on mine also points to the passenger-side.
This is the exact problem I'm having locating the right one, as the suppliers don't differentiate between 2WD/4WD & auto/manual trannys, only saying it'll fit any '87 Tercel, with no specifics, but the body style does make a difference. They say I'M the one that's wrong, but I personally installed this radiator to replace the factory original radiator, so I KNOW it's correct... This is my near-original daily-driver, so I'd prefer not to cobble it up with the wrong radiator, unless I have absolutely no choice. Just unbelievable how difficult it is to locate the right one.

The t4wd '83-'88 & also all '83-'86 2wd tercels had the upper & lower rad hoses & the overflow tank on the passenger side. Nearly everything in the engine bay is the same from the clutch forward for all those cars, 2 or 4 wd. The problem that you are having is that all terc's but the t4wd wagon for '87-'88 were a whole new platform with the engine sitting crossways in the engine bay. So your issue is that you keep getting rads & part #'s for the later 2wd platform.

I'd call or email Koyo and give their tech support folks the above info & see what they come up with for you. Very high odds that you could use the same Koyo rad that I put in my '85 t4wd w/o any issues at all.

The part listed on Rockauto's site as Spectra #CU813 is actually made by Koyo. This is what I bought, and it's also what Autozone sells for a few bucks more. They will say it's made by Spectra, but if you open the box and look on the bottom tank there is a "made in Indonesia by Koyo" ID plate. Since both the 2 and 4wd wagons have the hoses connect on the passenger side I would think they use the same part.

You could always order it from AZ, inspect it, and refuse it if it doesn't match the one in your car.

Neither the FSM nor the EPC in the Parts Forum here differentiate the radiators between any of the Gen II Tercels, regardless of motivation or body style; they are the same.
There were different part numbers initially, but all were replaced by OE # 16400-15130.

rumrumm, i'm 6 years late to this party so you may have already seen this info elsewhere on the forum by now but when ordering parts for 87/88 wagons, it is best to tells parts places you actually have any year from 83-86. this is because, for some weird reason, toyota kept making the second gen tercel wagons into 87 and 88 while at the same time releasing the third gen tercels (hatchbacks and sedans, no wagons for the third gen) in 87. so when you order parts for an 87, they often end up being for the third gens, which is why i suggest telling them you have any other year that cannot get confused for another gen.

I get my radiators at the self service wrecking yards, thank you very much.

I just need to spend some time searching for a bigger one with the inlet and outlet in approx the right place.

OTOH, a good condition double row radiator cools plenty good, a larger one should not be necessary, even with a more powerful engine swap.
