Making heater blow hotter?

Post by 4wdEconoBox »

Anyone have a fix to make the heater blow hotter? Mine blows warm, but it just isn't cutting it. The heater control valve is out of the picture and I have the hoses just ran straight to and from the heater core. The control on the hvac or whatever is set to hot, I check it every time I start up the car. Are there any quick fixes for this, or are we stuck with "just warm" heaters?

If you do not have AC you might try cleaning debris off top of heater core. If you have AC it would not be likely debris would get that far.
Love those Tercell 4x4 wagons but they sure suffer from road noise.

How old is the heater core? If original, try back flushing it with some CLR, it might be a bit plugged. Also, make sure the flapper doors inside the heater system are moving all of the way, you might be getting cold air bypassing the core.

This. I am having the same problem in my honda, which I do not care to ever fix. When I hit the main vent door button, the air comes out Luke warm, but if I change it to the feet and defroster, the air comes out hot as hell.

That might be by design. In my Camry, super hot air never comes out of the center vents.

what year is your honda? my wife's is 92 and it has a small motor for each flap, rather than the old reliable 'cable and sheath' system found in t4's. maybe the motor for your main vent flap has died.

There are a couple of air doors in this system that the foam rubber seals go to hell and need to replaced. Someone posted =on this forum= about repairing these seals Larry

Well I'm looking at everything right now and noticed that the flap for the fresh to recirc doesn't go up all the way, it's either stuck on fresh or halfway, I can push it ask the way up with a screwdriver but it doesn't stay, even when I pushed it up all the way it doesn't seem to make a difference...

The other lever, cool to warm, is on warm and tied up with wire....Image

Are there any more flaps/levers I can check? I really don't want to fool with back flushing my heater core again, I did it last winter trying to make it warmer and it seemed to flow good, I didn't use clr or vinegar though, just water till it came out clear a few times in each direction...

I removed most of my ac components but left the evap? stuff in and the grommets are still sealed up on the firewall, so I don't think the heater core would have debris on it, but how would I check that?

Warm might be the other way, try sticking the flapper in the other direction?

My bad, I forgot to put that in there, that's how I figured out it was the right direction. If I move it the other direction it's completely cold haha.

I've made a few adjustments and it feels pretty warm as long as my hand is right near the vent but by the time it reaches my face its barely noticeable... Could that be because the seals are gone out what? Also when I have the fan on high the temp gauge goes a little higher than compared to if I have the fan off, is that normal?

mine was blowing cold, the foam on the door flaps was gone and not sealing the heat was about 90 out the vents, put new foam on the 2 flap doors and went up to 130, flushed the heater core and got to 135 much nicer. the pic shows the bottom one and there is another one above it in the top.

Alright that might be what I look at tomorrow, how do I get to those flaps? Just take out the section between the blower motor and those flaps?! How hard is that?

Well terabfirbt, you just might have been right.... Backflushed a few times and got a good bit out....

Image

Any guesses on what that is before I tell y'all? Haha, I'm also guessing that's why my temp gauge was always slightly higher than I remember it being....

I'm waiting on vinegar so I can clean it out good, I'll post more results of anything else comes out...

While I'm waiting I'm going to remove the ac evaporator so maybe I'll improve great airflow also!

You mean remove the evap and put the cooling box back in, yes?
