OEM carb. Vacuum lines

Post by kitchman »

Hey All,
In the process of rebuilding the stock carb. It was flooding out to the point gas pooled in the intake manifold, also the pump plunger boot was coming apart with the plunger slopping around with fuel leakage. Any way, while disconnecting the various vacuum lines it became apparent they should all be replaced. My question is what the correct size hose is? Also do not think the secondary's ever operated properly, with the carb. on the bench and the primary valve fully open the secondary valve only open about 20 degrees and not fully as the primary valve. Do not know if this correct, haven't as yet found in the FSM how to test the operation of the secondary circuit?
All tips on this rebuild welcome.

The secondary is vacuum operated and as far as I know it will not operate the same on the bench is in operation.

Replacing vacuum lines are tricky they are metric size and usually in the US you can only buy standard sizes which are either slightly bigger or slightly small

what is wrong with your vacuum hoses? i have rarely found the hoses themselves to be the cause of any problems. once i had one with a hole burned through it (causing a vacuum leak), and once i had one with a pellet stuffed in it (done by a previous owner to disable a device). besides those two incidents, all my other vacuum-related problems were due to incorrectly routed hoses, disconnected hoses, and ruptured diaphragms.

For those interested in the answer to my questions, the size of the vacuum lines is 3mm I.D and 7or 8mm O.D.

3mm is almost exactly 1/8", which you can buy in north america. I think 3.5 mm sounds more correct, becasue the 1/8" vac line is a PIA to get forced over the metal line nipples, makes sense if it actually 3.5mm. Though it seems odd they would use vac lines of that size.

3.5mm is what I had come up with too, since it was just a bit smaller than the 5/32 hose that I bought, which was too loose. It seems like I read that the older 4runners used 3.5mm vac line too.
