i've been thinking about them lately, not just on tercels but trucks too. unless you are trying to push stuff over or like running head on into things, i don't know what the point of bush bars is. some have a heavy mesh grill over the radiator and headlights -- i think the radiator protection is the most useful aspect to protect against spear-like trees or something like that -- but most don't have that so i don't get them. sure they look cool, but is that all they're good for?

they reduce the risk of grill, radiator and hood damage if you hit road kill like coyote, small deer, stray pedestrian, etc

When I lived in NV, they came in handy for slowly nudging free range cattle out of the way. In some places they will block the road completely.

How is that bush bar attached? Hard to tell from the photo.

Hey folks. The powertrain transfer went smoothly. Mechanic took the time to do a lot more than I even asked for. Will be spending some time to live with the car, and make little adjustments as needed. Currently, the interior is out and being deep cleaned.

I'll put together a list of things I'm hoping to find to make this a very nice little runabout, along with some new photos soon.

I believe the red car will sell as a whole unit soon (powertrain from blue car included, but not installed), but feel free to make offers, if that's a project you'd like to take on.

Thanks all.

The great Tercel Transformation continues. Some deep cleaning reveals a seat surprise. They're actually really nice!

I may still need a driver seat (in blue plaid) if anyone has a lead.

I have some good help from Gold Class Detailing. A steam cleaner, the magic of chemistry, and lots of old fashioned elbow grease all do wonders for a tired and dirty interior.

More photos soon, but below is a before and after shot with the seats removed.

I tend to be a perfectionist, so I'm sure I'll replace the following, if anyone has any leads on a new carpet kit, and:

B Pillar covers
AC Vents
Shift boots
Shift knobs
Door interior panels
Steering wheel
Driver seat (blue plaid)
Luggage Cover

if your plastic interior trim is not damaged (or turning to dust), they can be cleaned, and if necessary spray painted (plus a clear coat) to make them look new again. If they are just yellowed, sometimes carefully using a heat gun on them restores the original color.

Thanks guys. I'll check out these plastic rejuvenation tips.

I found what is, perhaps, one of the very last new old stock luggage covers, in Japan. I'll post photos when it arrives.

Car is starting to feel relatively nice now. Thanks again for the tips and input. I try not to get obsessive over the detail, but it's in my blood. This is a good trial run for my family's car in storage.

#Tercel Transformation continues.
Not bad for what it was. Definitely could use some body work and paint, but it's a solid little car now. New bumpers (from red car), tires, and deep cleaning all around. Nice to save a fully optioned one like this. #Toyota #jnc #jccs #japanesenostalgiccar #toyotanation #tercel4wd #sprintercarib #DesignEverything
