Ok well it wouldn't be normal if there was nothing wrong with this graceful chariot of neediness
So here's the new deal .after AL the above work the rear diff leaked .so I drained the blood and Un did the fLange (4 bolts on drive line) undid the 9or spb12mm nuts and wiggled it right off . Cleaned it up put a new gasket and it still leaked .so here I am now EXCEPT this time the removable part of rear diff will not come out .I feels like it's on a really tight spring .any idears
My back is stiff and I'm in a tiff all because of rear diff

hard to believe that gasket would cause so much trouble
are you sure the housing is not cracked?
have no idea why you cannot get diff out (if axles are out)

Love those Tercell 4x4 wagons but they sure suffer from road noise.

Oh I haven't taken the axles out because when I did it last time I didn't have to remove axles

you have to pull the axles to get diff out to replace gasket
if you do not pull diff all the way out you will never get the job done correctly

Re: My back is stiff and I'm in a tiff all because of rear diff
it is really rare this gasket leaks, usually it is the front input shaft seal that goes bad and leaks on a car that has been sitting round for years without being driven (it dries out and gets brittle if it does not get oil on it).
unless for some reason you or the previous owner removed the third member and were not careful when installing the new gasket. that happens some times, it is hard to keep a new gasket in place when man-handling the heavy third member into place. One reason I like to use sealant on the gasket, to hold in place during assembly.
If you have not removed the axles it will act like it is "springy", you are flexing the axles, which are stuck into the diff assembly, and held at the other end by the bearings at the braking backing plates. Yes, there are splines on the end of the axle shaft that has to go into the diff assembly, otherwise there would be no way for the drive train to power the wheels!
