Seat belt return spring

Post by 4wdEconoBox »

Anyone found a fix for seat belts that are slow to go back in, or don't go in at all? If not I'll rip the mechanism apart today to look for a fix...

The only remedy I discovered, short of a total replacement, is to use contact cleaner (carb cleaner is too harsh) on the spring mechanism and then use silicone spray lube.
I cut it some slack - after all, most are at least 30 years old...

Haha, well I always try to keep that in mind anytime I try to fix something. I'm just worried about my work partner breaking the buckle off, he slams the buckle in the door everytime he gets out of the car because he doesn't check to see if the seat belt has retracted :/...

I'll try those steps though, thanks!

usually the are just filled with dust and debris, and unidentified goopy stuff, once you clean them out they will work fine. Silicone lube is a good idea too, but make sure it is clean first, or it will just mix with the dirt and crud and make it stick worse.
