What do you get when you step on the .....

Post by gnarnold »

What does it mean when I put a lot of pressure on the brake pedal (say if some one cuts out in front of me ,or a light turns red and i still think it's yellow so i apply the brakes hard)and it sounds like I just flipped on a jake brake.)it almost sounds like my mud flap is wedged up in between the tire*and the wheel well .but thats impossible because of the direction the wheel is turning .

Make sure your front and back brakes are ship shape. After that, try bleeding your brakes.

check the spring that clips on the back edge of the pads
once had one that partially popped out and rubbed on rotor
sounded real bad for such a little part
Love those Tercell 4x4 wagons but they sure suffer from road noise.

Well I had a couple of people in the back seat average sized and when I went to go and explain to them (which they didn't ask for and cold care less) it didn't make the noise .and I hate to say it but I think both rear wheel bearings are out cause I know the shocks are next to non existent back there I mean it's the nature of the beast right .one thing fixed .another thing goes out .
Oh the sounds I hear back there is grindy worbly
Same way the front sounded before I went through that ordeal ..do yourselves a favor and just pay to have bearings pressed out and in unless you got a torch to get it out and socket big enough to sit on the outer diameter of the bearing race rim

when rear wheel bearings go bad you typically get a constant roar whenever the car is moving. it does not vary except with speed, faster the more loud it gets. If you only get the sound when you apply the brakes hard, more likely either the drum is warped, or you have metal to metal contact with the shoes and drum, that is uneven. either case you have to pull the drums off and take a look, likley have parts to replace. rear brake parts are cheap, and rear brakes last a very long time since the front brakes do most of the work.

Well I know that I have never replaced the shocks or the wheel bearings in the rear the brakes I did about a year ago it almost sounds like clang clang clang but like a playing card in the spokes kind of patern. I really got to get on the brakes hard for it to make the noise and when there is people in the back it doesn't make the noise
