1984 SR5 A/C Condenser - aftermarket

Post by 84sr54wd »

Has anyone who has done any work on these cars been able to locate an air conditioning condenser? I am in need of a condenser and have called all over the country to no avail. at this point. Are there any aftermarket condensers made that fit these cars?

My Tercel was built NOV 1983 and I have found that the condenser part# oem should be 8846016070

There's like one on ebay but that's it!

I bet if you went to an AC shop they could find one.

I've tried a shop with an excellent reputation here and they said they would have to search extensively but really did not know either. Chances are they would modify another one to work in this car. I've blow mine out really as good as I can, hoping for the best. I can push plenty of air out of it with compression and get no blow back on me. I am hoping that perhaps my issue is not coming from the condenser. I also pulled the evap last night and put a new TXV on it. I flushed it first and cleaned the exterior but after being in the car for 31 years, there was hardly any debris in the evap box, it was remarkably clean. I also had no trouble blowing it out. I'm hoping that my TXV either was partially restricted or failing on operation and causing my suctioin pressures to be 10 and my highs to be approaching 300 on a hot day. Again, the problem I am trying to fix is that I keep blowing compressor shaft seals and I am trying to figure out why.

if the bearings in the compressor are worn and wobbley, it would wipe out the seal as the shaft wobbles around as it rotates. that is what happens on water pumps and power steering pumps, seems the same could happen with a/c compressors as well.
