that could be an excellent price, depending on the condition of the body/paint. someone should snap it up to save it.

Re: 87 for sale Nanaimo, BC $700
Hey,
Just signed up in order to pass on some info to other members...I went to look at this car last night. Silver body, black hood & black front panels. Has a ghostbusters sticker on the back window - and that sticks out to me because I swear I have seen a photo of this car before on here, or maybe the Island4x4 website. (I have not been a frequent visitor to this site as have never owned a Tercel4x4, but I do have a perusal from time to time. 5 of my last 6 vehicles have been 1980-86 Toyota & Datsuns).
Anyways, body is in fairly decent shape, drives & brakes straight, but transmission and clutch seem a bit dubious to me. Smokes under acceleration. Driver's window fell off its track when I tried to roll in down and stuck in the door. Has a Weber carb. Ad title was listed as '87, details said '88, but I'm pretty sure the panel inside the door said '86??
Owner says it needs new front bearings, and history was very vague (bought from a buddy of his to help with rent money, has been sitting a few months).
Looked to be a bit more of a project than what I was willing to take on at the moment, but I'm sure someone will pick it up quick.

Re: 87 for sale Nanaimo, BC $700
Welcome to the forum Blackstraw,
the door panel list manufacture date (not model year), and a late '86 mfr date could still be a '87 model year. There are a number of obvious differences between the '86, '87, and '88 model year: the '86 has sealed beam standard size head lights, and a more vertical grill, the '87-88 has shape to fit composite head lights and a sloping front grill. The '86 and 87 seats have separate seat head rests that can be raised and lowered, with a diagonal tweed like center panel pattern, the '88 has seats with intergrated "hollow" head rests (you can see through the center of them), and do not have the diagonal pattern. There are a number of other changes too, but not as obvious.
Those kind of fixes are routine, most not to difficult and what one would expect from a $700 car, but you can still get on one you pay many times that much. So this sounds like it is an excellent price. BTW, often when people say it needs new front bearings it really needs new CV axles, which is a much easier replacement (and more common problem). Though bearing replacement is a possibility, a more troublesome job for DIY, but it can be done.
