He's a little out of his mind thinking he can get $5,000 for it.

Ahhh - missed that one earlier.
I'd sure agree if $5K (or even $3K) is his reserve.

Sold for $3827.
Pretty good for a DLX, even with low mileage (110K).
We are becoming (if not already) a cult car! Next stop: Feature article on Hemmings!

Re: '84 DLX MT eBay Auburn,CA
interesting, the history of bids shows a fairly experienced bidder got it at the last min, with only one bid, about $40 over the highest bidder. that shows a skilled "poacher", beat out a lot of other experienced bidders, and quite a few newbies. The seller got a surprisingly high price, though I had posted that it would be worth perhaps $3500, he got $327 over my estimate, with a sellers cost on ebay of just about that much.

Well I guess I'm the Poacher, though I willing to live with that to get this car. It was bought new at Johnson Toyota in Auburn. Ran up and down a little dirt road in Grass Valley all its life. Doesn't look like anyone has ever even sat in the passenger seat. Unmodified in any way. Maybe one or two rockchips on a lazer straight body. Still has the OEM headlights.
I first took a shine to these wagons when we rented one at the Denver airport in 1987. 22 years ago I bought a beige '84 auto. In 1998, we upgraded to a one owner '87 manual with 101 Kmi on it. That went to my nephew 5 years ago. This one's for his brother. Two years ago I found him a nice straight, rust-free, sunroofed '84 SR5 manual in Eastern Washington, to which we fitted new struts, shocks, and axles. But at 295,000, the engine gave up. We were contemplating a new engine for that car when the Auburn car popped up on Ebay (and here).
So the plaid seats, inclinometer, instrument panel and wheels/tires presently on my nephew's disabled SR5 will be swapped to into the Auburn car. Even so, the one that needs an engine would be an excelllent find for someone with more wrenching enthusiasm then we can spare at the moment. We'll post a link here when it comes time to sell it.

Re: '84 DLX MT eBay Auburn,CA
welcome to the forum whitefalcon!
Great to have you. I did not mean the poaching term in a derogatory way, doing a last minute strike is the only way to buy on ebay, otherwise someone just keeps bidding it up too high. I did not invent the term, but that is also the way I buy on ebay, "poaching" an item, timed to the last few seconds giving no time for someone else to bid over you. I have never bought a car, but a lot of other stuff on ebay. Some buyers push the prices up way too high, poaching is the only way to prevent it. It is the way skilled bidders can buy things without over paying on ebay. I have bought some sports equipment, backpacking and ski gear, etc. and sometimes newbies drive the prices for used gear up to higher than you can often buy it new.
Anyway, great to see another Tercel4wd get pick up by someone that wants to keep these cars alive and running. It seems they get harder to find decent ones every day.
