the fitting the pin slips into has a "u" shape on bottom for the reverse pin but also has a "u" shape at the top end
that top end moves the gear that puts it in reverse
it probably slipped out of the upper "u" so your reverse gear is floating free
not sure if its possible to get it back in without taking tranny apart
could be bad to drive it that way as reverse gear could do some damage
Love those Tercell 4x4 wagons but they sure suffer from road noise.

I can dig through my tranny in the bucket and find these parts - if yours is damaged somehow I can ship to you, this gearbox was just run low on oil or a bearing went south, so rear internals are probably fine.
Tl;Dr I'd like to help.
It takes more fossil fuel resources to produce new vehicles than it would take to maintain and fuel any 70's or 80's vehicle for a million miles.

Look on page MT-17 of the FSM to see what xirdneh is talking about.
Then go to pages MT-52-3-4-5 for drawings of what he is talking about, and in particular the 55 page for a good drawing.
Page MT-55 would tend to show that the plug inserts into the lower "U" of the pivot, from outside the case - at least that is what it looks like to me.

Be sure to post the resolution - while I'm pretty sure this is a first for the Club, someone else may face this at some point.
Good Luck.

Hmm, well there wasn't any grinding noise at all, though metal fillings did come out when I pulled the pin out.

Well that might explain it then with the reverse gear floating around free.

Unfortunately I am not in a good position to be undertaking serious maintenance on the Terbus. I literally have a parking space to do the work in.
