I like the subtle design differences. The clinometer with altimeter, different color guages with the 4wd indicator on the left, and clock on the right. The door panels with cloth inserts like our DLX, but plaid like a proper SR5. I'd like to see what's under those seat covers. If the door panels are any indication, it's a tartan I've never seen in an American car.

that would be way cool to have to drive around here. It would also be a much easier 4age swap since the steering would not be in the way of the custom header installation.

A few other things about that car that I hadn't noticed before. 'P off' button. center armrest behind the handbrake. Carib rubber mats and still has the fake leather texture on the gear knob. Also...doesn't have those little black tab things that stick out of the door window frame on the A pillar. But has some sweet monsoon guards!
totally agree with you Petros about the header on the RHD for 4age swapping. still an interesting concept.
I wish my Japanese inlaws were a bit closer to Nagano. I would seriously consider bringing this back to Australia even though it doesn't have the essential AC - Nagano one of the snow capitals of Japan and has had the winter Olympics. In a few years we might move to Japan when we start a family. Housing is so much cheaper than Australia.

Do all the inclinometers have altimeters????
I used to love knowing the altitude hiking in the cascades with my dad growing up, I would man the compass/altimeter and map on cross range expeditions.
Love those translations: "Features:classic model, little used, need to ask price, middle displacement, simple equipment, professional, right handle, smoke free, ordinary engined, commonly used, not smart key, need a key, regular seats, no airbags, smooth handling, no Parking Camera, no air conditioner, no ABS, no ESC, smart color, no repaired - Have a nice Drive!"

It takes more fossil fuel resources to produce new vehicles than it would take to maintain and fuel any 70's or 80's vehicle for a million miles.

no, this is the first tercel inclinometer i've seen with an altimeter. most have a 4wd light in that spot.
some 84-88 sr5 4runners had inclinometers though, and they had altimeters. unfortunately they are not a direct swap with tercels due to the different angle of the dash. i'm sure it could be made to work but it would not be plug and play.

Hey mattel,
If you are planning on moving there in a year or two, you might see what they want for that car now. Cars like that do not come along very often, it has like one years worth of driving on it. If price it right perhaps you can arrage to keep it at your in laws place if they have the room to store it.
Housing prices are less costly in Japan than Australia? That is the first time I heard that. I know housing in Tokyo is very high, like all major cities around the world in developed countries.

...and the Graphic on the clinometer looks more like a Tercel4WD than the American version...
I wonder if there's anyone in Japan with a stockpile of T4 Clinometers?

Re: Meanwhile in Japan... SR5 with 20,000 kms for sale
Hi Petros. I would love to do that. I'm a bit underfunded right now - Just got a full time job after finally graduating though!. If you live in Japan and get own a car for a year in Japan you can then bring it back to Australia as a personal import. My in laws are about 1,000kms away from Nagoya though and like many Japanese they never drive further than the local train station, drive a tiny honda turbo kei car and use the bullet train to go any further. They never really had family driving holidays. My wife gets physically ill when we go driving anywhere more exciting than a freeway!
The housing situation in Japan is very different than Australia. Although Tokyo is still really expensive and crowded the prices are much more reasonable than they were 20 years ago. Service and day to day costs are probably the best I have encountered in the first world . My wife's family live in Fukuoka between the mountains and the beach in a dense city of over 1.5 million. There are many affordable housing types for small families available in the many smaller cities whereas Australia is concentrated into a few sprawling cities and big, expensive houses of cheaper houses on the outskirts but not much in the range of affordable housing.
