5-speed parts in a 6-speed?

Post by boreben »

My question is will parts from a 5-speed (shafts, bearings, blocking rings, shift forks, etc.) fit in a 6-speed? Are 5-speed parts as hard to find as 6-speed parts?

I am guessing the 5 speed is for two wheel drive only
the 6 speed is the 4wd tranny
i have never seen a 5 speed 4wd tranny, if it exists the parts, i am pretty sure, would be interchangable

for the tranny only (excluding differential housing)

for 2 vs 4wd
the Input shaft (that goes to clutch) is interchangable
the other shafts are not interchangeable as the 2wd shafts are shorter by several inches
the gears , synchros and some sliders are interchangable
most of the bearings are too
the alum plate (intermediate) on front is interchangable
the main alum case in too

the differentials are not interchangable between 2wd and 4wd cars as the gear ratio is different
Love those Tercell 4x4 wagons but they sure suffer from road noise.

Wait synchs ARE? I thought they weren't?!?
It takes more fossil fuel resources to produce new vehicles than it would take to maintain and fuel any 70's or 80's vehicle for a million miles.
