83 tercel 4wd

Post by cornbinder »

Rebuilt 4a with 74,000 km. 322,000 on body. New radiator, 14" snow tires, runs excellent. Recent head gasket done with recommended mods by Petros. Needs tranny swap. Have transmission from a 1987 but cannot find rear differential to match up. Body fair for it's vintage. $600.00 Located Sunshine Coast. 604-886-5939 or flydannyfly@gmail.com

You can swap the front diff/bellhousing.

I shipped a front diff assembly with the bell housing in a wooden crate for about $40, USPS. I have also shipped rear diffs but I can not remember what it costs, similar. Usually really heavy items are cheapest by Fed-ex ground freight.

nah, the sunshine coast is here in BC, just north of vancouver. some of it is remote though and requires a ferry to get to. i think, not positive since i've never been there. are you thinking of the gold coast in aus, dan?

Sunshine coast requires a quick ferry ride but you only pay on the way in! So getting the car off the coast will be free.

Problem seems to be in the front diff/bellhousing. Ferry fare to Sunshine Coast: car and driver= 65.00, on foot= 15.00. Can pick you up this side if interested. Car is now posted on Vancouver craigslist with photos. Return to Horseshoe Bay is free.

The paint job reminds me of WWII 8th AF assembly aircraft - some were even more colorful than the attached pix.
These were used as "gathering points" for assembling the (eventual) huge bomber formations, and dropped back to base once the formation was complete. They were worn-out aircraft that were stripped of everything and painted gaudily for easy identification.

P.S. NO, I was not in the 8th AF - although I was alive and out of diapers at the time...

You don't state whether the car is drivable as it is. Or what the problem is with the trans. Is the new tranny already installed and the diff is all that is needed to complete the car?

The motor runs like a top, however there is an angry noise coming from the front differential. No the new tranny is not in the car.
