The car may not be timed right as it is, for it not being able to start. A timing light, bought or rented, would be a good investment too, as you'll want to be able to check the timing anyway.

ignition timing is no big deal, you just need basic tools and a timing light. i think you can even borrow timing lights from some parts stores. here are instructions on how to remove and install the dizzy.

Swapped out the distributer and it worked like a charm. Plus, since I replaced the spark plugs and wires in the process it's never run better.
