1985 Tercel 4WD — FS, $250
$250 for the whole shebang. It's got a little rust here and there, a decent set of studded snow tires on it, a brand new OEM radiator, a Weber conversion, and an air conditioner that works quite well. Right around 200K on the clock. I'm in a little town south of Provo, Utah.
Of course you know there's bad news—it has no transmission. It's physically still located where you'd expect to find it, but it is hardcore stuck in second gear. First gear is long gone (never had it)—we just used Low-1 with the rear driveshaft removed (I still have that, but it's not installed).
My history with the car is short—I bought it right after I bought a house out in the country. I needed something more reasonable with mileage and was a little gun-shy with money after a house purchase. It passed smog here (have the records), I titled/tagged it, and then drove it back and forth to work until the transmission went. I replaced the radiator when I noticed a small leak. It leaks oil—maybe 1/2 a quart every 1000 miles or so. The power steering also leaks, but we kept an eye on it and it was never a problem. This shouldn't be unexpected on an '85 with 200K.
I can part it out if needed, but I'd rather just get rid of it all at once. If I haven't mentioned something, just ask.
And...thanks for reading all of this. Pictures to follow...

It could use a good vacuum and wash.
The satellite radio stuff will probably not go with it. I also forgot to mention that I have the original dash radio for it and a spare transmission. I'm inclined to keep the radio that's in the dash now, but if it makes or breaks the deal for you, it's yours.
The guy I bought it from threw a spare transmission in the back and mentioned past service work. I would assume that it is also junk. I think he replaced the transmission before me and kept the old part.

One last post—here's a zip of those same photos above, but at a larger size.

If you'd like more or different pictures, just let me know. It's tough to get them now that the sun sets so early, but I'll get them as soon as I'm able.

that car is well worth salvaging. looks great for a $250 car, even if it needs a new trans. good luck.

MR2 wheels....nice!
Not a bad looking car. That weber alone is worth $250.
Are people really having that hard of a time finding transmissions??
When you say stuck in 2nd gear, meaning you can't get it to neutral when powered down...and thus not flat towable?
Thinking...maybe a road trip in the works.....

That's correct on the 2nd gear problem—the shifter just won't move. The clutch still works, so I can press that in and push it around (difficult to drive around with a one-legged Fred Flintstone!). I flat-towed it home—the rear driveshaft is not connected, so the rear spins freely.emmahumpfritter wrote:MR2 wheels....nice!

Gottalovem has all the parts for a transmission swap....I just chickened out. I have 3 too many cars that need work and I just can't get it all done myself.

I do indeed.
And sorry for the late-ish reply. I haven't been able to figure out how to get the thread/board to email me with new posts.

click on 'user control panel' (the link is in the upper left corner), click the 'board preferences' tab, click 'edit posting defaults' on the left, select 'yes' for 'notify me upon replies by default,' and click submit.sbxcr wrote:I haven't been able to figure out how to get the thread/board to email me with new posts.
