i was curious if anyone could tell me what the specs/size of these speakers is and what a good replacement for the OEM ones would be...with the least modification?
Thanks!

where are you located? it seems in canada, al25's with rear speakers used 4" ones while in the US, they came with 5.25" speakers. you can measure your current ones first to confirm the size. for replacements, any name brand you recognize will be fine. if you find a brand you don't recognize for super super cheap, don't bother. they will be crap.

I am in Virginia but my car was a Colorado / Arizona car. I'm guessing mine are 5.25.? What is an AL25? Is that another name or European name for the Tercel SR5? I have not taken my rears out yet to measure them. I need to pull both trim pieces out as I do not want to break any of the clips that hold the speaker covers on. If I break any of that stuff I am seemingly screwed trying to find more. I will pull mine out today and measure then run to Best Buy or somewhere local and see if I can find some. It is not like these have to be high end...back in '84 there was no amplified bass or anything complex in these cars, LOL....it was basically four speakers and that is all you got.

al25 is the chassis number for 4wd tercels. i like it because it's easier to type and avoids confusion with other versions of the tercel (2wd wagon, hatchback, various other generations, etc).
i don't think you will need to remove the cargo wings to remove your speakers. both the speaker grill and speaker are probably just secured with screws so remove them, pull the wires off the tabs on the backs of the speakers, and the speakers and grill should lift out.

Re: 1984 SR5 rear speakers need replacing
I have finished the speaker install. I did take the two rear speaker panels that hold the speakers and are the rear trim pieces completely out of the car. I tried to get the covers off and I was having difficulty...so there are just four bolts that secure each to the side wall so I popped it all out to clean it all well and so as to get a better handle on removing the speaker covers without damaging them. I put in new 5.25" Pioneers and they work fine. I made my own harness that wires into the factory connector so I did not damage or change that in any way. One more project done!
