4:1 trans parts

Post by Tercbeater »

Tore down the trans and found what I need. Looking for an input shaft, idler gear and possibly output shaft though it might be salvageable. Please correct me if I have the names wrong

I recently sent 3 gearboxes with another forum member and i still have many parts around myself perhaps between the two of us we can come up with what you need.
have you completely torn down your gearbox are those the only damaged parts?

that happens when the trans is run low on oil, those gears are way up high and lubed by splash, they become oil starved and get chewed up when low on gear oil.

inspect all the other parts carefully for damage, looks like it might have thrown a lot of loose metal around in there.

Hey thats beautiful! just kidding, I'm on my way to that myself if I keep loosing 80/90.
I'll search through my tools tomorrow and see if I have the 6mm allan to disassemble one of these trans, One has that same . . . whats it called? Idler gear? eaten to shit, I suppose I'll start with mine though as I know its just 3rd/4th that are trashed (or come loose from the mount)
And yea I have a butane torch, just in case I have a 6mm allan, but I'm pretty poor and my tools are all bottom of the box hand-me-downs, with my luck I have american standard equivalent of 6mm, witch will just piss me off.
What'd you end up doing about you harmonic balancer earlier?

EDIT: WTF is going on in here? Image

So I took another look at it today since I didn't tear it completely down yesterday. Well it looks like I'll need an output shaft and the shaft next to the output. The big washer on the idler gear was smashed and a couple of the big ball bearings are damaged. The previous owner had a clutch installed and the trans wasn't filled up correctly afterwards, by the time I got it the damage was done and was just a matter of time until this happend. Might be better off continuing the search for a replacement?

You can replace just the gear box then you dont have to worry about gear ratio

Don't remember if it was here on T4wd forums or if I thought of it myself, but greyhound is probably like $100 - $250 shipping as opposed to twice that or even $1000+ for conventional methods of shipping.

I'm disassembling the worst of the 3 trannies I got from goddolovem, This is hind sight was wise, as I'm stuck unable to avail the main gear cluster from the case.
It's the one that had a badly worn idler gear and the one that it directly connects to, its also got some teeth off the 5th/reverse gearset.
Seems that all the synchros are A-O.K. though, I just underestimated my self, I need the dude from here that's posted teardown/rebuild youtube videos.

Did you take some of the 4x4 parts out of that one?
I got the tail off, but strangely I can't seem to remove the front cover off the main box.

Remember that username?
The only thing I can think of is that I need to hammer these shift shaft retainer tubes from the shafts, I just don't know anymore, I've been screwing with for over 3 hours now.

I'm afraid there will be a useless pile of parts when I'm done.
Heres the front, been working at the retainer rings of the drive gear protruding there.

And the tail rods exposed.

I got that gearbox in a broken parts car and have no idea if it's missing anything but from the impression i got from former owner he would not have known what was what.
That's why he sold me the car he couldn't put it back together.

I think you are seeing it all backwards all the gears stay attached to the 1 inch plate between the front and back half's of the tranny.
when i watched the video i was surprised to see the entire gear cluster stays attached to the plate and the back cover slides off the tail.
Your missing a pin or something simple don't get frustrated figure it out and soon you will be a gearbox Jedi

remove the three pins in the last picture (shift dogs on shift fork shafts)
knoch the roll pins out with a 5/32(if i remember right) dia drift punch
you must not have watched the videos
Love those Tercell 4x4 wagons but they sure suffer from road noise.
