Shift boot and 4wd lever boot

Post by 84sr54wd »

Hey guys, I have a blue '84 SR5 4wd and I might need a new gray shift boot for the transmission gear shifter as well as a boot for the 4wd selector lever. Does anyone have these parts possibly in Gray? Thanks!

There are so many colors available I'm sure you will find a match - in fact, check out deejay1272's pix!

Where do I see the pictures from DeeJay? I went to that link you posted and see no pics, looks like data has been scrubbed from the site or something? Those are old postings? Wonder if anyone had any of the boots in Gray? I dont have the tools myself to make them but I have a good relationship with an excellent local upholstery man that does tons of custom car jobs.

I just clicked on the link from my above post and all of the pix appeared.
Dunno what happened - maybe someone else reading this thread can try it and report back?

Hmmmm, I get red X's and this is my work laptop...perhaps java or security policy issues. I will try from mobile or my personal IPAD/Laptop later

I'm sure you could get a sewing shop to do it for you. I don't think you're going to find any good used boots at this point!

Yeah, you're probably right. I figured it was worth looking first though to stay authentic. I don't mind if they are showing wear, long as they are not shot....used in my mind was more authentic and original than new ones made of new materials.

Well from an limited example, both 4WD's I have, both shifter boots are shot. When I pulled two junkyard transmissions, both of those cars had shot boots. The material just didn't hold up that well.

those boots decompose as they age. I have never seen a good one, even for cars that were garaged their whole life and had the paint and the rest of the upulstry in excellent condition.

best to just have some made. I was going to make some from deer skin, or so perhaps pigskin...real leather, to "upgrade" from cheap econo-box low bidder supplied fabric.

Yeah I believe it for sure. I am probably going to have to go see my local upholstery man who has done work for me in the past with other vehicles of mine, and see what we can do. He is extremely talented so I am sure something can be done. I am going to see if my boots are salvagable when it arrives, and if they can be fixed to buy me time, then that works. I value original so if they are not shot, they are not shot. I prepare for them to be shot though. LOL!
