Re: Cherry
tom, richard r might be rer233. that's my guess.
jarf, we also only carry liability on our vehicles. they're all 'beaters' by ICBC standards and would be written off at the smallest dent so there's no point in paying for collision or comprehensive.
i've never heard of 'agreed value' insurance. i don't think ICBC has that here but i've also never asked. funny how different the insurance game is, province to province/state to state.

I carry full coverage on all of my tercels, it is only $6 per six months each vehicle and that covers the glass too!

Good guess David- That would be me. When my tercs got crashed (see my post "a day that shall live in infamy" -too dumb to post a link) I had comprensive ins on both of 'em. I wound up collecting $5000 from my ins co. for the pair (they were both totaled.) Got to keep 'em both, and i still drive one every day.dlb wrote:tom, richard r might be rer233. that's my guess.

man oh man. when i backed my first terc, a mint '87 sr5, into a friends truck, my insurance company said they would write the car off if the repairs were over $1200. it's a semi-gov't run corporation though, and notorious for awful payouts.

Richard has supplied a number of parts for Goldie, most notably the cargo cover!

Re: Cherry
That is a beauty, probably one of the last handful of mintys left in North America. I sold a minty goldie a couple years ago on here for $2500. Literal barn find, in California, with 147, sunroof, alum. wheels, etc. (I even brought it back to the rust belt for the buyers)
$6500 just seems exorbitant to me.
I use to be heavily into Toyota van 4wds (the unicorn of 80's Toyotas) the survivors are now reaching 8-12K range! Nope...won't do it.
Yes, price is subjective, and I doubt there's a new car sold today better than a T4wd. That one looks like new.

Re: Cherry
Iro - I am more than jealous.
While DLB may complain about ICBC, it is still a much better deal than Ontario.
Here we have a gov't that decided that charging young drivers a premium based on risk was "unfair" so now we all get to pay more just to even things out.
Adding insult to injury, they charge by car AND by mileage AND by location.
So if you have 2 cars, that means both require full insurance on both even though I can only drive one at a time, when I complained I was told that is the law, period.
As basic ins is mandated, there is basically no competition, they all charge too much.
As long as they can "show" that they lose money on car insurance, they get to keep upping the rates.
While we have the highest rates and payouts in the country, we supposedly also have the highest fraud rates, which for some reason is easier to make customers pay for than go after the criminals???
When we lived in Toronto I was told that it is the highest risk area in the province and therefore the highest rates.
When we moved to the country I had expected a decrease, but was told that the extra driving I will have to do to get anywhere, more than evens things out, WTF!
I just wish I too could be an insurance company, all my money troubles would be over!
(there is "classic car insurance" available for a lower rate, but it is limited to 5000km/yr maximum (thats like 3000mls) so really not a viable option)
(just to make y'all feel privileged, basic ins on the T4 is a mere $800/yr !!!!)
So I see buddy has dropped his price to $6200, would be nice if he would get back to me.
Guess its time to call again.

Re: Cherry
I still do have to carry full liability coverage on every car I have insured, which I think is silly, why do I need full liability on four cars when we can only drive two at once? etc.

Re: Cherry
So I texted him with more info, hoping to get a response, still no word but I see he has reworded the ad and bumped his price from $6200 up to $6400??
I think this will end up being another pass.
I have noticed this weird phenomena around these parts, thought it was only a local thing but maybe its more widespread??
List a car and when it doesn't sell, raise the price??
Very strange behaviour, I must say.
Too bad Emma's car is on the wrong coast.
Off to see yet another forester tomorrow.
Krickey, I may have to leave the fold

Re: Cherry
jarf, this may sound dumb but have you posted any 'wanted: 4wd tercel' ads online? i have had really good success with it over the years. i wound up finding stuff that people had not listed. i guess seeing the ad got the idea in their head to sell it.

What, no rear package tray? For that price it should be complete, and documented.

Re: Cherry
DLB - that would be a great idea if someone else hadn't been doing it for the past 2 months.
Emma - I am more than tempted.
Will let you know before the end of the week, (assuming that it hasn't sold that is), have a couple of local cars to see in the next 2 days.
(wife REALLY wants me to graduate into something made in this century, silly woman. The things I consider doing to keep the peace)
Looks like St cloud is about 18hrs away, doable for sure.
He texted me back and threatened to call me, but I haven't heard anymore.
Not that it matters, I have already moved on, just doesn't make sense to drop that kind of coin.

Re: Cherry
anyone else notice the missmatched wheel? one photo of a silver wheel with a white hubcap. Also, every 87 I've seen with hubcaps had black caps with no holes for the lug nuts. I've also never seen an 87 with white weels. Those hubcaps and three white weels look the 83/84. No mention in the add of why a 100% interior doesn't include the rear package tray, or why such a well maintained and cared for car would have a set of weels that may not be original. I'd be curious to see pictures of the underside. Buyer beware.

Re: Cherry
The cargo cover could have vanished at any time over the past 28 years! Maybe the current owner doesn't even know it had a cargo cover.
