California Emissions computer
Looking for a spare california emissions computer, unless the federal version can be swapped in.

Re: California Emissions computer
just curious, what's wrong with the one you have?
what does the ECU control exactly, anyway? evap system, EBCV and cold mixture heater, it looks like. looking at the FSM, both the federal and california cars have all three of those so i think the ECU's would swap between them fine.

Re: California Emissions computer
You'll laugh, David. Dad wants it so he can stick it, with a spare distributor in an EMP safe place.
I have one but it specifies federal so I wasn't sure.
Would be interesting to see exactly what would need to be done to make the wagon run computerless. The 1st gen has no computer. I'm guessing the EBCV would have to go away.

Re: California Emissions computer
I have a feeling that disconnecting it would have an effect only if one is still using the OE Aisan carb. When I installed the Weber, eventually all emission stuff was removed (save the cat) and no probs have arisen. The only thing that may still be connected to the Commodore 64 is the carb warming device in the phenolic plate.
OT, but I looked up the Wiki page on the Comm 64 and was astounded to discover that: "It is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the highest-selling single computer model of all time,[6] with independent estimates placing the number sold between 10 and 17 million units.[7]"
Actually, our T4WD 'puter may be more like a VIC-20.

Don't know about the calif. 'puter (never had one) but i have driven fed versions short distances 'puter-less. I'm sure they run "dirtier" but the only obvious problem i encountered is the car wouldn't idle (guess the fuel cut solenoids are 'puter controlled.) Think you can get a part# off the calif. unit so we can see if it matches the fed?

Re: California Emissions computer
check the FSM for the emission layout of the canadian manual trans tercs, paul. they are computer-less, and i love them for it.

Yeah, would need to change up the wiring probably, wire the idle cutout switch and some other things...
