My car is an automatic, and it shifts from third to second quite often when I'm going uphill. Back and forth third to second. Also, when i'm on the freeway, I let off the gas and after a few seconds it feels like a stick shift car when the clutch is in and then you let it out real quick, just for a split second. Strange....

It's been a while since I looked at an auto Tercel. Is there a mechanical kickdown linkage? I'd try adjusting that. It might reduce the "gear hunting" on hills. Or just manually shift into 2nd.

I'd do the manual swap. :)

Hey guys, when you say a "6-speed" you mean it has EL, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and reverse, right? And then a "5-speed" would mean it doesn't have the EL?

Correct. The 5spd only came in the fwd wagons.
