Why did this thread die?!?!
It takes more fossil fuel resources to produce new vehicles than it would take to maintain and fuel any 70's or 80's vehicle for a million miles.

I bought my spare JDM tranny from Soshin in CA a few years ago...same place i got the 1N-T diesel also. i think i paid like $400 including shipping.. same deal, should only have around 50k on it. I didnt even need it but i have it as a spare. The shifter points towards the passenger side, but im sure can be replaced with the US one...and there is another hole for the clutch cable so all that needs to be done is it moved to the US side. The trans arrived in decent shape...aside from a few of the switches/sensors on it being smashed...the engine i ordered from them appeared to have been dropped or had the oil pan jabbed with a forklift...so they arent terribly careful with the stuff when they eviscerate them and throw the engines/trannys on a ship over here...

That JDM was a 2wd?

No, the one i bought was a 4x4 6 speed exactly like US ones. just set up for right hand drive...which can be easily changed to left hand/US.

No shit! now I'm interested!
But in the case of us 87/88 SR5 owners this JDM source is irrelevant, yes?

87-88 doesn't matter, but I don't think JDM stuff are available now.
