Roof Rack Opinions??

Post by cr1d3r »

Should I lower the roof rack closer to the roof or leave it as it is? I personally think it'll look better lowered, but sometimes I like crazy things, let me know what y'all think.

i really like that basket-style rack, they're better for securing smaller items. it does looks a little high for my liking but unless i would probably live with it, personally.

how does the rack fasten to the car? where did you get it?

Yeah, i think im gonna ride around with it for a week or two and just get random peoples opinions. It has two hooks on each side that grabs right under the trim/rain guard things, and they just tighten up. I got it at a garage sale for $1.00 haha, the lady that sold it to me said it was originally on her father's 1960's Volkswagon

that's a deadly price, you can't go wrong with that. what's more, i bet there are some VW enthusiasts who would pay quite a bit for such an item.

i just checked ebay and guess what, those racks sell are listed for anywhere between $250-$450. that's for new ones, i don't see any OE ones but i would bet they're worth even more. even just the attaching straps are $60 on their own! considering this, i would not trim or modify the rack. keep it stock so it retains as much resale value as possible.

Heck yeah dlb, and I didn't even think about the value side of it, and sure as heck didn't think that it would be worth that much honestly.

But yeah, knowing all of that I think I'm going to leave it like it is just in case someone wants to buy it or trade something for it at a car meet or something like that, thanks a lot dlb!

I found one similar to mine and its in worse condition than mine is also, but he's asking a pretty penny for his also, so yeah I'm definitely not going to chop mine up, I'm just going to leave it exactly how it is!

man oh man. that really is one of those lucky garage sale scores that you usually just hear about. usually antique experts scoop up stuff like that right away so you got super lucky, cr1d3r. and only $1!

I know right?!? I looked at the lady and asked her if it was $100 or $1.00 at first because I honestly thought that I was looking at it wrong. I still can't find one exactly like mine either, so I'm just wondering now if mine is worth more or is rarer than all of the other ones I've seen.
