Got me some MOTEGI's MR7 for my ride

Post by wikkedGTS »

So I decided to get some new(used) wheels for my wagon. This after I put new shocks all around. I wanted to put 17's but kinda too close to the strut on the rear. These are 16's but I still had to put a 3mm spacer at the back. Whadaya think???

THANKS

They are 16" diameter and 7" wide with +45 offset. Had to put spacers at the rear tho but they handle pretty well. Now my next task is to put 38mm mikuni carbs from a motorcycle. What do you guys think? I hope it can be done.

if you want to mess around with a carb conversion you will be almost on your own, manifold, fuel supply etc, will all be up to your tinkering and trouble shooting. I would go EFI, more modern and liekly less costly since most of the parts you can get from new model production cars. while you are at it, swap to a 4age or 4afe head, gain both power and economy, and improve reliability. the stock 8 valve head does not take well to getting more power, it is just obsolete, it does not cool evenly, nor breath very well (see my thread on head gasket replacement in the repair guilds section).

I didn't know you could put a 4AGE head on to this block. I will look into it. I know there's an MR2 at the wreckers here but I think the intake is backwards. I could be wrong... Any ways I will look into it for my winter project. Thanks

go with a whole 4age engine, you gain some displacement, it is a stronger block, and all of the bolt up "hard points" are the same. you will have to swap a six bolt 4ac or 3ac crank so you can use the 3a flywheel (best lighten it since it is heavy). that way you can use the clutch and the trans will fit up properly. some have cut a new ring gear step in the 4age flywheel to the 3a ring gear will fit on it and allow you to use the tercel starter/bellhousing/trans. you also have to swap over the 3a oil pan and oil pick-up.

You will have to make a custom exhaust, and either lower the engine mounts or put a scoop on the hood (the intake manifold is too tall to fit under the hood). Or you can switch to (costly) twin side draft carbs, or adapt the later 20 valve throttle plates to the engine to get the hood clearnace. most other external parts will swap over.
