Looked at it today;
Body in great shape, except for the hood and front bumper.
Paint faded some but no rust.
Interior carpet, door trim, etc. removed and put in another car (trim from other car included, but not in as good shape)
Blower motor, AC & radio removed
Engine compartment clean.
CV joint boots good.
Weber Carb (factory carb system would have to be reinstalled to pass CA smog in urban areas).
Front tires balding, needs front end work (alignment? tie rods, or other?)
Rear shocks from Nisson Pathfinder

Shifts into 4wd effortlessly unlike my car

It's a solid car that needs some work.
I would buy it except for having to replace the CA Carb and all the other emissions parts

Original owner pulled the car with an RV, hence the low miles
2nd owner did Carb / AC / Shocks modifications

Car was listed for $900 at one point
$425 offer rejected

I ran a CarFax on this Tercel. It shows 256k miles in 2009.

I spoke at length to the seller on the phone. He's an extremely nice guy, seems very straightforward, and mentioned lots of the cars flaws without being prodded. He even told him he didn't think the mileage was accurate on account of pedal wear (this before I ran the CarFax).

Were the miles low, I would have gone and quite possibly purchased if it ran decently. But, with those miles, on top of everything else, I simply can't do it.

high wear on the pedals that do not match the miles on the odo is a typical give-away of odo tampering. It is one of the tell-tales if something looks too good to be true as far as low miles are concerned. Personally a car that is cared for with very high miles can often be in much better condition than one that was neglected but has much lower miles.

See, the fact that he updated it to include the higher miles shows what a decent guy he is.

There are many sellers on Craigslist who would never do that.

As I mentioned previously, he was an extremely cool guy on the phone, and talked freely about the car's shortcomings, without hesitation.

Sadly, this Tercel now resides at the Richmond Pick N Pull salvage yard.

It will never drive again, it is gone for good. It's too bad the seller and a buyer couldn't arrive at a deal that would have kept this car gracing the roads.
