From my other Radiator Fan Switch Fun Fact thread:

... I literally can not find anything about doing a swap down here in aus so if I do go ahead with one it'll be fairly blind. I am pretty sure I have found that I need to get a DFEV not a DGEV but then need to find a mount adapter for it, and a throttle linkage too... I seem to recall someone did a swap and used the linkage from the factory carb?

Anyway, I was looking at getting this adapter plate and then buying a DFEV locally, but I'm still left with the linkage dilemma. any ideas maybe? :|

And FWIW, it's late here and I'd do another search for the swap I read up on (apart from the fact I've read pretty much all of them on here!) about taking the old linkage and putting it on the Weber, but I'm hoping that it might be a memorable post or something.

One day I probably will do the swap and so I'd like to have everything clear about what I'd need to get to do it. I'm determined to do it, as I said, one day!

Thanks!

The DFEV is the mirror image of the DGEV, with, according to Redline here, " The DFV also features a power valve circuit to facilitate low vacuum running conditions-perfect for long duration, high output situations. You get the same value, parts availability and durability as with the DGV in a carburetor suited for your needs."
Dunno the importance of that "power valve circuit" when the DGEV does not have it.

The mount adapter usually comes with the kit, incl. various bits, bolts, and the air cleaner - and you must have the short one on the cleaner.
The DGEV kit in the USA (K740), usually goes for around USD 270-300.

Again - contact the Oz importer; in a cursory perusal of USA distributors, none showed a specific model for RHD cars in the online catalog - I did not email them.

EDIT:
1) An australian forum I found discussing a Weber swap on a 4A engine used the DGV series kits, so I'm starting to think that they'll be fine for my tercel but nevertheless I await a reply from the Australian importer; and
2) 4A kits fit fine on a 3A (and 2TC, and 3TC)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've sent an email off to one of the Australian importers of Weber carbs, hopefully they'll be able to give a definitive answer. Thanks for everyone's assistance. I also sent an email off to allautomotive on eBay on the listing of their K740 Redline Weber kit.
Hey from Australia!

I want to put a Weber 32/36 carb on my '84 Toyota Tercel w/ 3A engine, but I believe that the DFEV is needed instead of the DGEV as the DFEV is a reverse-mirror-image of the DGEV.

Any idea if you could help me out here? Thanks :)
The response I got:
Hi,

The DFEV does have linkage that moves the opposite direction but to say they are mirror images would be incorrect.
The DGV series generates almost over 5% more torque than the DFV series. I honestly can't say what would fit in Australia as I have no application information for vehicles sold there. It's possible with the RHD vehicles the DFV model is needed.
The bolt pattern is the same but the linkage kits required on the DFV are different.
Curious about the comment of the torque difference, maybe that's where the power valve circuit comes into play? :|

I'll update this when I get a response from them (weberperformance.com.au). Again, thanks heaps for your, and everyone's help so far.

(And if the DGEV will work, it's funny, I looked it up and if I was to buy the carb alone in Australia on eBay, it would turn out cheaper if I bought the redline kit from the US and that's with the $101 USPS shipping! Except might see if there's a cheaper way to get it sent though...)

Thanks!

Interesting figure on the shipping from the USA.
I looked at my Weber box (from Carbs Unlimited - see http://www.carburetion.com/Products/Pro ... ?part=K740 ) - Yes, I still have the box...
It is 11x11x8.
Cost is USD280 and shipping to Oz is USD85. Dunno if shipping is USPS or FedEx, etc., but I'd bet it's USPS. which is frequently cheaper than UPS or FedEx.
Shipping in the USA is (still) FREE!
USPS shipping to Oz from private USA citizen is roughly USD90 (@12#, per vendor) and 6-10 days.

I went with Carbs Unlimited in 2008 because it was the only one here who would swap the short air cleaner for the tall one at no charge - others would not swap and wanted up to USD30 at the time for the short cleaner - plus, I'd have an irrelevant tall cleaner.
If you contact this vendor, ask about what kind of mod to the linkage would have to be made for RHD - I could find nada on its site about this.

spaceypuppy, be careful of duty fees or whatever they're call in your neck of the woods. i am in canada and ordered a weber kit from the US but i had to pay an additional $75 on delivery to cover border inspection fees or the tax i would have paid if i bought it here in canada or something like that. i've had it happen before on some other items i've bought online from the US and it really deters me from doing so again. in the end, it would have been the same price to buy it here, and it would have been easier for me to return it if it had a problem then.

Thanks for the replies. I had looked at Carbs Unlimited before but didn't think they shipped over here to Oz. I've just sent them off an email.

dlb, thanks for the warning, that's a bummer about Canada's duty chargers. I don't believe we have anything except Import Tax and that only applies at goods that cost over $1,000AUD, then we get charged 10% GST/Sales Tax same as if it was bought in Australia.
