Torque converter seal

Post by irowiki »

Just in case people don't catch my question in my engine swap thread.

Which seal do I need that goes on the bellhousing / input shaft on my automatic transmission? This seals up between the transmission and the torque converter.

The toyota part numbers are:

35301A SEAL, OIL (FOR FRONT OIL PUMP COVER); SEAL, OIL (FOR FRONT OIL PUMP). ORANGE; TYPE A:REFER TO ILLUSTRATION

9031138020 ; 9031138029; 9031138129

So I think it might be the first one.

1984 TOYOTA TERCEL 1.5L L4 : Transmission-Automatic : Input Shaft Seal

BECK/ARNLEY Part # 0523386

I honestly don't know. When I re-built my auto transmission I used a kit with all the seals from E-Bay and I just replaced the old seals with the one that looked the same from the kit. I can't remember exactly what they looked like now and I didn't take any pictures. Do the aftermarket manufacturers have a cross-reference to the OEM Toyota part #s?

I can't find any cross reference. It confuses me because "automatic transmission input shaft seal" and "torque converter seal" both sound like the same thing. Perhaps I need to order both

I remember someone on the forum coming up with a cross reference for another part number, I'll have to do some digging.

edit: Alright, after visiting http://beckcatalog.com and putting in 9031138020, it came up with 0523386 so I'm ordering that.

Can you find a number on the old seal? They can usually cross reference it from that.
