Hub seal?

Post by irowiki »

In my research, it appears when doing the CV axles, a hub seal may be needed? What is the actual name / part number for this seal? I already have the drive axle seals for the diff on order.

The hub seal would be behind the wheel bearing in the hub. You can inspect it when you take it apart. It usually gets replaced when you do the wheel bearing but you should be able to change it if necessary when you do the axle. The numbers I have are: 20215 inner seal, 19643 outer seal, FW104 wheel bearing. Don't take them as correct, please double check them. I may have reversed the numbers when I wrote them down.

Ah ha, they are under "wheel seals" on rock auto!

So I don't have to be concerned about it yet, then.

I have never replaces the wheel bearing seals when I replace an axle. only when I replace the wheel bearings. they usually hold up well. It is possible it is cracked and brittle and should be replaced, if you do than I would also add some quality molly grease to the wheel bearing while you are at it.
