I've been thinking about replacing my regular air cleaner with a washable K&N style. Has anyone found a K&N part # that works in the 3ac?

They must have just released that. Or were just informed it fit. There was nothing for an 83, 84, 85, or 86 when I looked.

Called my local Napa and have the E-2690 part on order. Was $52 CAD. Can't wait to get it. It'll be about 3 weeks, but I'll let you guys know how it turns out when I get it.

I can buy 8 or more regular filters for what they want for the K&N...got one on my other car...but keep overtightening the wingnut on the Tercel....which deforms the filter.

ive had mine for about 5 years, i clean it on a regular basis, and even when its dirty is still a lot better than the oem one, if the folter deforms don worry it wont brake, mine twisted a bit before i raised my hood
tercel 4wd custom suspension, under drive pulley, vented brakes, cold air intake, and plenty more to come
I was going to go with a K&N....but other than the issue of crushing it...are my doubts about the filtering ability in really dusty conditions.
Read something once about some tests on pickups used around construction sites...with poor results.
K&Ns are probably just fine east of the Missisippi or west of the Cascades....but in between the dust is an issue.
Don't anyone let me stop them though....

A properly oiled K&N will filter just as well as a fresh FRAM.
If you just remanufactured your block, then maybe a K&N would be worth it... but 6 FRAM's will get you a way. Then again, would the increased each of suction reduce wear a miniscule amount? Could it make you get maybe 5000 extra miles over 100,000 miles?
Silly thought isn't it.

i entered a copule of rallies with my car, three of them in near desert conditions, as far as i could se the filter worked just fine, just had to move the maintenance a little bit closer, if you want extra protection from dust k&n sells a kind of skirt for you to put on top of the filter, i dont remember how its called an there a re two types,
tercel 4wd custom suspension, under drive pulley, vented brakes, cold air intake, and plenty more to come
