a magnetic tray is one of the few tools left that i still want to get but they're always so overpriced. i keep waiting for them to go on sale but i haven't seen it yet. they're super useful though.

Just for grins I tried starting her up today, the glass sight doesn't fill up anymore and no more gas out of the top, but she starts and revs high, to like 4-5k RPM. So something is up still :D

Will take the carb apart when I have a chance.

you could try blowing air down the fuel supply inlet to the carb. If there is some loose crud in there it might blow it out so the needle valve will seat. Try squirting some spary solvent in there, and than blow it out. it will only take a few min and it might work, or it might not. But there is a small chance it might save you the trouble of pulling it all apart.

I did spray some carb cleaner down there, will spray some more, and try some air tomorrow.

blow it into the fuel inlet line, not the vents. you want to put solvent and light air pressure on the needle valve directly through the fuel inlet line. You can slip the fuel line off the fuel pump outlet and put it into the carb supply line.

Well, tried starting it again before I did anything else. Started up, revved way too high, looks like the fast idle was stuck, and the throttle positioner was also stuck a bit. Fiddled with that a bit and walla, she drives!

Float level seems slightly low.
Also takes a while to go to idle when coasting, about 10 seconds. TP probably needs fiddled with.

One big issue though. When warmed up, there's a hesitation on acceleration from a stop, and if you let the gas off while going, coast, then give her gas again, she lurches slightly then starts revving up. What am I looking for here?

good call on the TP adjustment.

the hesitation could be a variety of things. exactly how low is the float level? as long as it's between the two points of the sight glass, it should be fine. i would double check the vac hose routing and check for vac leaks everywhere—diaphragms, carb base, manifold, throttle shaft, etc.

I would say it is below the bottom mark. Need to double check next time I'm on level ground.

There was also more vibration than usual when in 4-5th going around, but I may have been imagining it.

sounds like it might be a vac leak. or a misrouted vac line. also check for weak spark at low speed.

All the vacuum lines are freshly routed so I'll double check.

She actually idles better than she ever did, and sounds real smooth at cruising speed.

Will figure out how she runs in the morning, cold.

So this is the first carb I've had that not only does the fast idle works, but it works on crack. Seems much more than the 3k stock, like it is stuck...yesterday I got it to unstuck by fiddling with the choke. This morning I got it to unstuck by shifting to second (it idled to 25 mph in first so makes me think it just isn't the fast idle. More adjustment/figuring under way.

I do have a 1st gen SR5 cluster I'll be swapping in though

You can idle it by "ear", you just want it after it is warm to idle at the lowest speed where it is stable and smooth. the fast idle adjustment is on the throttle bellcrank next to where the throttle cable attaches. Usually if you spray carb cleaner all around the outside and down inside (holding the throttle open so it does not stall out), than spary light lubricant over the linkage, it frees it all up so you can adjust it. make sure your throttle cable is not too tight, so when all the way down at idle there is no tension in it.

Small update: Fast idle adjustment was screwed all the way in, so I think it was trying to idle at 4-5k RPM

Dialed it way out until I get a tach on there. Seems to be running better the more I drive it, I need to see about taking it apart to get to that float.
