low compression?

Post by Gottolovem »

I just did a compression check on "rusty" the car i got from the bay area.
And its under 100 all across with #2 at 25 the car dosent smoke there is no fuel in the oil either
obviously Its way low on power but i drove it through the mountians 100 miles and am curious if it will make another 800 miles to another owner for its parts.
Could the head be leaking causing these low numbers?

often when engines sit around and not driven much the rings get gummed up and stuck, so they can not seal properly. Often soaking in Seafoam helps free them up. Seafoam was in fact invented to free gummed up rings for outboard motors for fishing boats that sit around all winter not being run, and the rings stick and fail to seal properly.

amazing it actually runs with that low of compression. not likely it is caused by a bad head gasket, you would be loosing coolant or oil or both, or mixing both, if the head gasket was bad.

If it runs, and you keep oil in it, it likely would make an 800 mile trip. It will use a lot of oil however, and get very poor economy.
