that's a really good idea, peter. i'll have to look at the vacuum diagrams to see if there's a way those might work.

also, hopefully both toyota and these aftermarket valves are the same thread but i have a feeling that toyota used BSPT for these as well as the oil pressure senders.

Good news! My car is once again smog legal in California... even if it is not a completely legal member of Tercel4wd.com (some of you may remember that I replaced my 4wd automatic trany with a 2wd trany a couple years ago; thank you for the privilege of belonging to the group!).

I am grateful for our members advice. I followed much of it and have a super clean running car. I replaced the AAP valve (the old one was not very pliable. I replaced the oxygen sensor (the other was probably original with 290,000 miles). I replaced the TVSV (the old one flunked the boil test).

emission results:

at idle %CO2 was 13.0 now is 10.5
at 2500rpm %CO2 was 13.0 now is 14.2

at idle %02 was 2.8 now is 6.7
at 2500rpm %02 was .4 now is 1.0

at idle HC was 10 now is 10
at 2500 HC was 54 now is 14

at idle CO% was 0.00 now is 0.00
at 2500 CO% was 2.82 now is 0.00

Talk about clean. Glad I actually repaired this without putting in a new cat. Should be good to go for some time.

Thank you again to all! john
