Re: 1987 SR5 4WD Wagon - Vancouver
OK I give up... please tell me what this thing is worth. Obviously the price is too high or it would be gone, so I'm open to offers - Great little car but it needs a new home.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: 1987 SR5 4WD Wagon - Vancouver $2800 OBO
Gee Lenny,
It is so hard to say. I have been watching cars selling for such a range of prices. I know there is a high demand for these cars here in the Kootenays and there would be people willing to pay the price. But, if you are asking close to $3000 it would have to be pristine, in my opinion.
Have you had any offers or serious interest yet?

Re: 1987 SR5 4WD Wagon - Vancouver $2800 OBO
A bit of interest, there was a fellow who wanted it shipped without seeing it which I'm not that comfortable with, and also a girl moving to the Kootenay area (I think) who was pretty excited about it, but unfortunately I was out of town when she came through Vancouver. To this point however, nobody has actually seen the car, and I'd much rather somebody see it and drive it so there's no surprises. It's funny, I had lots of interest when I advertised it for $1800 with engine problems...
So, I guess it's just a function of price - it's a decent little car but they're only worth so much no matter what condition. Maybe it's still only worth 1800 now, but I'd like to get a little more since I've done bunch of stuff to it since. It's been fun playing with it but it's time to go.
I revised the ad - took out a price and just said make an offer. Hopefully somebody will come by and drive it.

sorry to hear it lenny. i thought it would get scooped up pretty quick but i guess everyone who is willing to pay that much for a terc wants absolutely zero rust. i think you're modified ad is a good approach though. maybe once some potential buyers drive it around and get psyched about it, they might be willing to come close to what you're asking.
i would clean the hell out of the interior and maybe get a seat cover the torn seat. cosmetics are, unfortunately, probably the most important thing to the vast majority of buyers.

pricing is a funny thing. A little too high you get zero action, lower the price just a little and you get a lot of calls. It is a tough call, usualy cosmetic damage has a very serious affect on the price. You could spend three thousand on repairs and new parts, but if the paint is all peeling off the hood and roof and it shows poor, you would be luckly to get $1500 for it.
I usually sold all of my project tercels surprisingly fast, but I always put it for a little under the price I think it is worth, all of them were real clean however, and usually I would fix the seats and use touch up paint on it if necessary. Not all cars work out that way, I had a great Corolla all-trac that I had to drop the price $800 to sell it, far below what a similar condition Tercel4wd would have sold for.
Sometimes too low can be bad too, I once had a nice double door refrigerator I wanted out of the garage. Ran perfectly and in great shape. I put on CL for $40, with a good description. A few inquiries but no one even looked at it, I ran the ad for 3 weeks, dropped the price to $30 (I would have given it away, I wanted it gone). My wife suggested people might think it was a piece of junk at $40, I looked as similar year and condition refrigerators, they were listed for $400-600. So I relisted it for $375, a guy came and picked it up within a hour of my ad posting. And I got six other inquires right after that. It was the same ad and the same pictures, go figure!

Re: 1987 SR5 4WD Wagon - Vancouver $2800 OBO
BTW, shipping a car of this value sounds like a scam. Tell him to have his "agent" show up with cash and he can take the car.
I just sold a 2000 honda CRV, and funny thing about it too. I put in at $4800, a little high but I thought I would see what happened, I was not in that much of a hurry. I got three inquiries, I had two people make me low ball offers without even seeing it (one at $3500), and one guy looked at it. He gave me some BS story about a 'hassle' getting it registered because out of state plates (I have registered 6 cars with out of state plates here, never had an issue) and he offered me $3000. I dropped the price to $4600 and ran the ad again, I had three new inquiries, one woman came out and drove it and was impressed at how clean it was and how well it ran, she made me an offer and I settled on $4,400. as-is and no conditions. It passed smog and is now is in her name. I was happy with the sale and so was she.
It is difficult to know what the right price is, sometimes you have to keep dropping the price and wait a few weeks and see who shows up to actually look at it.
