It does end up being unfortunate timing and I wish I hadn't bought the TVSV but the Weber was too good of a deal to pass up. Going to see how it runs and worst comes to worst I'll just get my money back.
If anyone is interested in a brand new factory TVSV it might be up for sale soon. Can sell for a bit cheaper than what I paid for it.

Just wanted to say that the carb install was a success! I was kinda short on time due to lack of sunlight but I managed to get everything installed and running ok. On Sunday I'll clean up all the metal lines and remove all the emissions stuff.

can't wait to hear how you feel about the weber vs the stock carb. i think they're quite a different experience. the weber *almost* makes a tercel feel sporty...almost.

I only drove it up and down the block but oh boy, I could tell the difference from the second I pulled out of the driveway. Lower end is smoother, mid range is peppier and just pulls like a bat out of hell up top.
The only thing I don't like is that it points out even more that I need to get my clutch done but it should only be a few more weeks before I can get that worked out.
Plan on going for a full cleansing so I put in half a bottle of Seafoam, going to work that in until Sunday when I'll be changing the oil and putting in a bottle of Engine Restore. A few members here have mentioned it so I figure I'd see if it does anything.

yeah, i wondered if the hard driving that the weber can lead to would make your worn clutch even more obvious. oh well, maybe enjoying driving the car more will give you greater inspiration for doing that clutch job and hanging on to the car.

I'm contemplating whether I want to attempt the clutch install myself or spend a little money and have a shop do it. I'd hate to spend so much to have it done but the peace of mind would almost be worth it.

i've done two clutches at home and neither was too bad. one was on my wife's 4x4 toyota truck and that only sucked because that's a big trans to drop and put back in place when laying on a hill in the dirt. the next one was in a '92 civic and it was nice and easy because they're such small FWD transmissions. i imagine it would be about the same on the 2wd tercel--small enough that you can wrestle the trans out without much trouble. that's the hard part, replacing the clutch parts is easy. i think you will just need a torque wrench and lock tite for the flywheel bolts. everything else should be pretty standard. that's my guess, anyway.

dlb is right a clutch job is easy sure you will need to man handle a few heavy parts but there is nothing to difficult about the job.
The carb swap you just did is probally more technical than a clutch.
Take the money you save and buy a nice tool kit or something.

With the Weber on there, a clutch job is actually easier by pulling the engine out of the car rather than the transmission. You can basically just unbolt everything with a jack under the trans and use a chain, long bar, and a friend, and lift the engine out. Don't have to mess around with being under the car much, pulling axles, etc.
One thing to watch out for: Never unbolt the intake manifold from the top of the exhaust manifold. After this many miles the bolts are more than seized into the exhaust manifold and will break for like... no reason. It's easy enough to unbolt the exhaust/intake from the head and the downpipe from the exhaust manifold and remove them as a unit.
While you've got it apart, you might think about fully studding the intake and exhaust manifolds, it's stronger than the bolts and will be less likely to strip out.

Do you have emissions testing in your area will the webber pass a smog check.

It passed when it was on my car, but Oregon only has an idle test, no dyno.

Question about the vacuum port on the Weber. There was a vacuum line over by the EGR valve that wrapped from behind the motor. I assume this is the proper vacuum line to hook up and cap the other ones?

You can still use the hard line, just make sure you have ported vac from the weber to the single port (upper diaphragm), and manifold vac (gas filter) to the lower diaphragm that has two ports (the less plugged one). Plug off the restricted one.
