Upper Rad Hose Goes where?
I went to replace my thermostat and while removing what I thought was the thermostat housing I realized it wasn't. What is it?

Re: Upper Rad Hose Goes where?
Welcome to the fourm,
that is the coolant outlet. there is a temp sender for the emission controls and the thermal vacuum valve on it (TVSV). THe thermostat is in the camber below it where the lower radiator hose attaches (next to the water pump). The coolant is drawn from the bottom of the radiator, through the T-stat housing and into the pump. from there is is circulated into the engine block where it goes around the cylinders, than up through the head gasket where it goes from the back of the head towards the front, and out this housing.
there is a by-pass tube that comes from the back of the pump housing and goes into this outlet fiting. this is so the heater gets coolant cirulated first so your heater and defroster will be warmed before the radiator. This by-pass tube has two o-rings that could leak if they are not in good condition. So when you put the outlet housing back on inspect the o-ring on the tube, I usually put a light coat of sealant on it to help the o-rings seal. Also use a new gasket on the outlet housing or it will almost certainly leak. Both the gasket and the o-rings you can get at most auto parts stores cheap.
good luck.

Thanks Petros!
That's super helpful. One last question, what do the T-Stat mount into?

So apparently it's the Water Pump housing. Anyone know where to get those? I'm slowly filtering through my list of wreckers.

why are you missing the water pump housing? I may have an extra one. Where are you located?
