Im wanting to replace the seals in my trans so she'll stop leaking. Then Ive got two more transmissions Ill be putting seals in too when I repair them. However, when I look at rockauto for seals I see alot of options. Can someone tell me the differences?
Drive axle seal (for the front two right?)
Extension seal (not a clue on this one)
Main shaft seal (again, no idea)
output shaft seal (I would assume this is the rear one for the driveshaft right?)
shift shaft seal (seal for the shifter? I thought those were NLA?)
Im teaching myself how to repair these transmissions. Im currently on my third trans, and I kept the old ones. So I decided to pull the first one I had problems with, apart. It came apart rather easily and I found the problem with it. (shifter had popped out of place thus sticking me in one gear). Fixed the problem, it seamed ok, but the monkey I took it to originally who claimed it "welded itself together" and that he couldnt get it apart...had never heard of snap rings. And he runs a tranny shop. W/e. forget him. I got this. Its going to be my parts transmission for the second one that I fubared....and the third one I just picked up the other day. So, out of three, I should be able to make two! The 2nd fubared one is also stuck in gear and trying to shift 3/4 doesnt exist, i remember posting a thread about it long ago. Shouldnt be that hard of a fix. However, the third one I picked up has much more severe problems. Putting the trans in gear and spinning the input shaft does nothing. I assume an idler gear has lost its teeth or something. Thats ok. Thats why I have the first trans, for parts!
Complete rebuild kits are still non existent right?

Re: Trans seals
i used to have some trouble ordering the tranny seals from rock auto
the front driveline (halfshafts) seals have an extra lip or protrusion so look at the pictures rockauto provides
the rear tranny seal (that rear driveline plugs into) is a typical looking seal (proportionally) and does not have a protrusion and is found listed under "extension seal"
the only other seal is the input shaft seal and it has an out of proportion shape (center hole is smaller than normal) the input shaft is the shaft that passes thru the clutch disc
input seal can only be replaced if bell/diff housing is seperated from tranny

Love those Tercell 4x4 wagons but they sure suffer from road noise.
