A/C condenser vs plain duct

Post by c_j »

Here's the A/C vs non-A/C ducting:

It looks like the [strikethrough]condenser[/strikethrough] evaporator pipes were cut off with side-cutters. Note the adjustment knob which ends up behind the glove box.

The sticker on the ABS [strikethrough]condenser[/strikethrough] evaporator box reads: CLARDY MFG CO. 2Y-043632

nice, did you rip this out of your current ride and replace it with the non-AC unit? you've really been going hard on that car lately.

Exactly. I went from no heat (when my heater core was bypassed), to so little heat that it really made no difference, to full on heat. So, I went for a midnight run in shorts and t-shirt last night and almost baked myself out of the car. Dried up eyes and skin - had to turn it down after 20 min.

Still, there's a problem with the windshield defrost flow. Driver's side is little and passenger's side is almost non-existant.

Also, here's a pic of the A/C switch. It's available if anyone wants it, as I've given up thoughts of rigging up the A/C for now.

I did the same thing to my terc a few years back.. I don't like carrying all the weight of the A/C around.. Plus, they tax the engine and are IMHO problematic... I believe what your calling the condenser is actually the evaporator coil.. Remember condensers give up heat to the outside air and they are usually located up front near the fan and radiator.. Have Fun! :P

That is an odd looking AC switch, aftermarket maybe?

Every single second gen I've ever seen has the dual AC/Econ switch!

That's exactly what I did a few years ago.
But Boy! your evaporator is clean! Did you vac it for the photo? Mine was clogged with dirt and debris (no mouse bodies, though). At least one of the PO's was a heavy smoker.
It's amazing the difference in the heater air flow - the heater core itself was pretty clean. I can't imagine how efficient the AC was (not) when it was operable - and that wss long before moi.

It looks like dealer installed A/C to me. e.g. the way the wires were routed after the fact and in your commonly found plastic split loom with zip ties and regular black electricians tape, and also the non-OEM look of the 2-piece ABS molded evaporator housing made by Clardy.

Nope, it is as removed only minutes before.
