Cat converter needed

Post by toyomonkey611 »

Hello all! i bought a used exhaust system locally, and when i removed it from the parts car the cat didnt rattle, but when i got it home, it sounds like theres rocks inside it. anyone have a cat for 85 federal emissions for sale, plus air suction valve?

cats can be bought new from lots of places, and aren't even necessary if you live somewhere that does not do smog testing. you could have a muffler shop remove the cat and replace it with straight pipe or a resonator.

I assumed that replacing the cat was necessary for exhaust back pressure, something about killing my exhaust valves. And i hope replacing the cat would solve the nasty smell my car makes. My car is exempt in Oregon.

Good news for me, i pulled the heat shields off the exhaust and got a baseball sized pile of dirt n rocks out. My cat isnt rattling at all now, it has a chance!
