I had the same question a while ago (you could do a search and probably find the thread) the short answer is , you'll probably need to redo all the gaskets e.t.c between carby and inlet manifold to get a tight fit,

Probably just as much work to recondition the one you have perhaps?

good luck!

They are the same carb with the same connections. Don't worry. I just put an 86 engine into an 84 body after pulling the 84's engine and had no problems. Had to transfer the high-altitude thing, but thats easy.

well would it be a better idea to put the 86 engine (320k,rebuild at 150k i think) into the 84? (150k miles but previous owner DIDNT CHANGE OIL, head gasket blown, shoots oil out the exhaust pipe etc etc)

im thinking the only thing worth touching on this car (the 84 with bad eng) is the carb, the cigarette in the ashtray, and anything else related to the body/accesories... it was only 80 bucks so

more detail on the carb swap please? what is the high altitude thingy?

A little vacuum adjuster. It was on a 86 FED car. Looking towards engine from front, left side of compartment.

The swap is really easy with the right equipment. While its out, its a good idea to redo gaskets, rear main seal, tranny and dif oil... Things like that.
