Old Gold Goes!

Post by rer233 »

Took old gold ('84 sr5) for her last ride this week. Drove her to the shop where she'll be gutted and scrapped. Kind of sad really, it was the first t4 i bought (back in '95) and was rusty then. Well, it's gotten to be SCARY rusty now, and will be donating it's m/t and attending hardware to my newly-acquired '87 a/t t4.

Anyway, before it gets scrapped, if anyone needs some obscure trim parts, window regulators, etc i'd be willing to help them out at reasonable prices. As mentioned above, the steel body parts are toast- the only non-rusty steel body part is the fuel flap door! I'm located in baltimore, MD so shipping on any bulky items could get pricey.

Also, after memorial day weekend i'll have all the a/t stuff available including the premo trans ass'y with no issues and 138k on the clock. Anyone local that's interested can test drive it as it's currently still in the car. I'm with dlb- don't much care for these cars with a/t. Thanx.
if it aint there, there's a good chance it won't break!

these are the parts that I find have to be replaced as the car ages and you should consider saving: heater blower motor, heater core (if it is good), heater control console and cables, plastic trim at leading edge of headliner (next to windshield), both left and right front window regulators, driver's side door handle (if it is good), if your front bearings are good save the whole steering knuckle assy (both sides), and the CV axles, radiator, the engine is it is in good condition, or at least the carb, starter and alternator, steering rack and power steering pump (if you have power steering), and the left and right tie rods (it says with the steering rack), lower ball joints, struts, or at least the upper strut mount. You will need your driveshaft to swap the trans, they are different length, and the rear diff, the a/t has s different ratio than the manual trans. Save the fuel level sender if good, and even consider saving the fuel tank if where you live rusts everything out. heater control valve, carbon vapor canister, washer tank and motor, all the sensors on the engine and rad.

No point is saving any of these parts if they are not in good condition, so check for play or binding or function on them before you remove them. Exept for the engine itself, most of these parts are small and can all be saved in several cardboard boxes. If you intend to keep your Tercel as long as possible, you will need all of these parts sooner or later.

Got a luggage cover - regardless of condition?
I know yours is an '84 and Goldie is an '86, but I can use it as a pattern.

what would you need a pattern for, tom? the luggage covers are interchangeable throughout the years so it should fit fine.

I could use even a tattered one for a pattern for a home-made copy, and could also reuse the assorted hardware bits.
Note that the '83-4-5 covers lack the cutout for the 3rd brake light in '86-7-8 models, so I'd also have to allow for that - no problemo.

Tom- my luggage cover is great condition- no rips, tears stains (and nobody's stored cinderblocks on it either!) it's the "butterscotch" color used in '83 & '84 as opposed to the "chocolate" brown in my '87. don't know which (if either) shade was used in '86. how's $15 plus the ride sound? only problem is i won't be able to ship 'till after memorial day- still using it as a "modesty panel" to keep prying eyes off the contents of the car- would hate to have the trans it's concealing "disappear."

Dang, I was impatient and got one on ebay, sorry. What about the rear mud guards though, are they in good shape? What would you want for them?

I'll take that dome light cover! Or actually, how much for the entire dome light assembly, assuming it's a rectangle and has a on/off/door switch.

How about the manifold vacuum port?

How's $10 for the dome lamp ass'y and $5 for the vacuum port (gas filter) sound- plus the ride (should be cheap.)
