Thanks again!!

Re: No fluid in tranny?
Rebuilding the trans is straight forward, but there are a lot more parts since it is a six speed and has a built-in transfer case. Make sure you get a complete kit when you do it. the FSM is helpful, but they tell you to remove the spring clips by putting two screwdrivers on them and hitting with a hammer to remove them. This will not work, you need a good set of clip pliers that opens when you squeeze the handles. they need a really narrow tip to get between the gears. You might have to buy one and grind the tips to be small enough to get between the gears. This trans is much smaller than most 4wd trans. Pay attention to the disassemble sequence, it is not always obvious what has to come off first, second, etc.
Also, carefully check the FSM procedure, there are a few caps and nuts that get reverse thread (they are on rotating parts). If you use an impact wrench on them the wrong way they will break off.
Good luck.

Re: No fluid in tranny?
i have been using needle nose pliers to remove most of the external type "C" clips (large and small)
set the two ends of the pliers, one on each end of the "C" clip and tap the end of the pliers handle with a hammer
most of the time I tap only one handles end
i always position white paper towel on far side so it catches the clip when it jumps off
otherwise you may never find it
the only reverse thread I have encountered is the oil pump (takes 17 mm socket)

Love those Tercell 4x4 wagons but they sure suffer from road noise.
