good replacement clutch?

Post by timothygodden »

i have an 84 tercel 4wd sr5 the head gasket is leaking, my manifold is bent, and my clutch is going soft on me. planning on pulling the engine out and fixing all the problems at once. Was wondering what would be the best clutch to go with? i live in seattle and we have a bunch of hills so would like to put in something that will last. any recommendations would be apreciated.

this has come up a few times but i can't find the thread right now. i have used a luk clutch in one of my tercs, put an exedy in my wife's '91 toyota pickup last year, and just put a new generation clutch in a '92 civic. all have been fine, no real preference between any of them. i know two of those aren't tercs but i think brand quality would be pretty consistent regardless.

make sure you follow the head gasket procedure I have developed for our cars as I wrote here: https://tercel4wd.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=6059

You also might consider putting in a new rear seal if it is the original one, while you replace the clutch.

good luck!
