Anyone done any towing?

Post by danieldialtone »

Just curious about what it takes when towing something with the Tercel. Would U-haul install a hitch? Im interested in towing a small camper trailer
or a pop-up tent trailer.
The best car ever made has got to be the Tercel 4wd!

some rear tercel bumpers have a hitch bolted to the underside. if you went to a wrecker you might be able to find one and bolt it on to yours. not sure what the towing capacity on them is though.

here is a good thread on the topic from a few years ago. the unposted conclusion to the thread is that simon84 towed a pop up camper all the way from about calgary, AB to burning man in nevada, and back. he didn't have any problems, although it's obv advisable to use a trailer with electric brakes.

It can be done if you get a proper hitch attached to the frame of the car, not to the bumper. I would also highly advise to do the brake up grade I outline here: https://tercel4wd.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=4998
