1987 Toyota tercel 4x4 in CT

Post by rpecchia »

Hi Everyone,

Still keeping my eyes peeled for a Terc around the Rhode Island area. Saw this one posted a few weeks back near Hartford. Might email asking for more details and pics.

"1987 Toyota tercel awd. 6 speed manual trans. Runs perfect. All new brakes and exhaust. 4wd works awesome and still gets 38 mpg. Has minor rust on fenders. Frame is clean."

I would opt to say he means 28 MPG. city/hwy combo. Would be awesome to get 38. Sales pitch...makes things sound steller.

Peace

looks like more than "minor rust" on the fenders, otherwise looks decent. depending on miles, the price seems a bit high, especially with the rust and the condition of the paint. Might be worth it, if you can get the price down to about $1200 or so, unless it has really low miles (Like under 100k).

good luck.

If there is that much rust on the fenders, be sure to check the tool cubby in the LR quarter panel - notorious for rust. Ditto the very bottom of the hatch inside.
AND - ESP the area where the front control arms attach to the body rails!
If bought, be sure to pull the front sway bar and check for necking of the threaded ends where they go into the control arms.

Thanks so much for the helpful responses everyone. I plan on reaching out to the seller and will keep all of the above in mind--though I think I'd prefer traveling a bit further for something that's in better shape.
