Went to replace my drivers front wheel bearing and found out my hub is toast. Apparently the bearing locked up and wore down the hub.
Theres an 85 corolla in a junkyard close to me. I dont know if the knuckle is the same, but wouldnt the hub be the same? I have no clue and Im just taking a shot in the dark here.
Scratch that, just called and the part numbers dont match. Would building it back up and grinding it down to the right size be an option?
So I need a new hub... will any others interchange?

I don't think crankshaft rebuilders do hubs. That's the only time I've seen building up and grinding down.
Call the dealer or hit car-part.com You will probably need to search knuckle vs just the hub. Just might get a good bearing too.

i've done this a few times, usually using the knuckles from my parts cars. done the same with rear bearings and rear axle shafts. makes replacing bearings much easier, and i like easy.splatterdog wrote:You will probably need to search knuckle vs just the hub. Just might get a good bearing too.

I do not think the steering knuckle (hub) is the same for any other model of Toyota, but it should be the same for all models of Tercel from '83-86 and 87-88 wagons only. It likely could be repaired by welding and machining, a lot of the antique car guys do such repairs, but it would be far less costly just to find a used replacement. I might have one in my garage, though it might have a junk bearing, but the knuckle would be good. Where are you located? I will have to check my pile of parts.

Dealers dont have anything, the internet is pretty much dry from what Ive seen. I also called the local welding shop and they wont touch it without an obscene amount involved.
