86 sr5 4 sale in salt lake $900

Post by turdsmell#2 »

Hey all, with a very heavy heart (cue sad music) I list my 86 tercel SR5 with 88 grill, lights and front fender due to an accident in 2010. She has been my daily driver for over 3 years and she still runs great. Last year she got new radiator, struts, strut mounts, shocks, springs, tie rods and ball joints. Tires are good and will pass. Body is in decent shape with only one spot of rust above drivers fender. Starter pinion gear only grabs sometimes, I keep telling myself I am going to fix it but I have been saying that for over a year (hey, it always starts eventually). Other than that she is a great tercel, has always passed safety and emissions here in salt lake city. I really hate to sell her but I am a guy that needs a pickup. Wife says a truck, hot rod, motorcycle and 4 other projects is enough for 1 man, although I disagree, She is always right. Thought I would list it here before I whored her out on ksl to some unappreciative dink that just wants to rally her to death. I can tell you everything about this car and would be more the happy to do so. PM if interested, she is going on ksl soon.

How many cars are really too much? If wife says only one, and I say ten. than a reasonable compromise is in order; five it is!

unfortunatly this is the compromise, I have been selling things all winter  I have a disorder where if it has a motor, is a motor, or could be turned into a motor, I hoard it for fear I might need it one day and not have it. I have a feeling most people here can relate

I have my Tercel4wd that I like more than any car available, so I want to keep it going as long as possible. So I am storing "spare" parts in the garage, even whole spare engines and spare transmissions. Hopefully I can keep it running indefinitely. but having a spare car or two is not a bad idea either, sometimes I am down to only one and I worry I can not find another good one. even with all the spare parts, what if someone wrecks my car? bends the frame and it is not fixable. I will need to find another one and start over with it, can I find a good one? Or should I grab as many as I can find and just stock pile good bodies? I can store them somewhere on our property under the berry bushes and cedar trees, perhaps my wife will not notice if I can find places to tuck the spare cars where she can not see them. I worry about finding parts....keep buying spare parts when I can find them, I can always use another starter, or alternator...the one in my car will fail again some day, sooner or later. Likely sooner if I do have have a spare one.

My wife does not understand this, why I need three spare starters and distributors, two spare alternators, 3 spare carburetors, plus the two spare complete engines...I am running out of room to store all the stuff. already I have to do work in my gravel driveway out in the weather. maybe I should build another shop building to store my Tercel parts...what if I can not find the parts I need? how many parts do I need to keep it running until I am too old to drive...how many years will that be? 20 years, 30 years? even more? How many starters will that be, how many clutches? the thought of not finding a critical part worries me, I might have to buy something newer, more expensive, and not as good a car...maybe I should get more spare parts? and so it goes...

Petros, I have the same concerns. When I had my VW Westy Camper Van I felt like I needed to have my own special parts house because like these Tercs my Westy was hard to find parts for. I even considered driving 8 hours away to tow a parts van home just so I could have spare whatevers. The wife nixed that idea real quick though.

I hope that as long as there is a good group of people loving these cars that hopefully through the Terc family tree any of the hard to finds will be somewhere in the hands of a fellow Terc lover that will be willing to part with their spare gem in order for one more Terc to stay on the raod.

I lke your idea of hiding your spare cars under the bushes...but being from the great Pacific N.W. i know that parking cars under bushes can sometimes mean the last you will see of them, literally. Shrubs in the P.N.W. can grow like wild fire especially with a nice car to grow around. I have seen my share of bush cars while I was living in WA. Blackberry bushes are the worst...a "real pain" if yoiu know what I mean.HAHA!

A possiblitiy that the family and I may be heading to Everett to see the Grandparents around the end of Feb. We would be driving the Terc and would totally dig meeting up with you if you will be around. Would love to see what the wife considers too much stockpile. I will keep you posted on our plans. Waiting for tax return for that trip.

I have to "bust my arm patting myself on the back" here. Years ago when I was in the service stationed near Boston I owned a motorhome while I lived in a mobile home. Since my driveway wasn't long enough I had to creatively store the motorhome. I would periodically park it in various parking lots on base (the 'lemon lot', where people bought/sold vehicles, was a favorite) and managed to avoid raising the eyebrows of the base cops. For a time it was right outside the building I worked in, so I had great fun making sure coworkers saw me exit the coach at the beginning of the workday ("man does he have a short commute!").

Then I discovered a never used dirt road just outside of my mobile home park that was literally shrouded in trees and bushes. I was able to hide that 36 footer for months until one of my jackass neighbors narcked me out. To this I don't know how they saw it, I swear you could be 10 feet away from it and not have a clue it was there.

Good luck with the sale TURTCEL, sounds like the car will have a loving home. Completely understand the space versus car issue.
It's a scientific fact that in a twin engine aircraft, when one engine fails there is always enough power in the remaining engine to make it all the way to the crash site.

Not my car for sale danzo. But I am from WA where the blackberries and salmon berries run thick. To hide a motor home in the berries would be no prob where I am from.

Sucks to have neighbors that can't keep to themselves on things that have no direct affect on them. Maybe he was jealous because you took the last good hiding place...haha.

I snagged this lil gem from Turdsmell a month or so ago, and together we crawled up the canyon to park city where ive been using her as my grocery getter ever since. The -15 weather a few weeks ago zapped the battery so i put a new one along with a new starter. I cleaned up all the wiring at the terminals as well. my intention was to do the water pump, timing belt ect... next...then I acquired a 85 4runner so now I have 2 projects! So anyway I could possibly be persuaded to part with the tercel. Its really such a cool car tho, and people point at me and smile and comment on it everywhere I go.
