no, the gear on the dizzy shaft that parties with the gear on the cam shaft does not need to be removed unless it's obviously damaged. never seen that but i suppose it's possible. i follow the FSM pages IG-7 to IG-14, minus the section on "replacement of the driven gear."

Cool, thanks for he specific sections to follow. I am looking forward to learning more about servicing the dizzy. The more I can do myself means the more I learn about the Terc.

Off topic...my friend owns a graphic design shop and he is going to make me "TURTCEL" decals for my ride. One for each side and one for the back. I am excited to have them put on. He is going to remove the factory emblems (if any) and relogo the car with a custom touch. He is also going to help me post pics and put them on the forum. He will be available for custom design work if anyone will be interested.

Just got off the phone with Toyota parts department at our local dealer...apparently the only difference in distributor vacuum advances for these Tercs is between US and CANADA built. As far as automatic vs manual transmission applications they are the same part number.
