i just installed a new stereo in my project terc. the stereo end of the rear speaker wires are there (red, white, black, yellow) but i can't find the other end of the wires in the cargo area. in my first terc, the rear speaker wires came out of the plastic doors used to access the brake lights. on my last project terc, they came out from between the lower cargo area trim (the piece with the hump for the rear wheels) and the off-white trim above it. i haven't noticed any rear speaker wiring in my parts car. i've pulled the carpet up and the passenger side lower trim piece back but can't see anything obvious, or even the wire the colours i mentioned above. i could splice new wiring in and run it back but i feel like i'm just not looking in the right place. anyone have any input on where to look?
btw, i checked the groups of wires that run along the doors to the back and the aforementioned colours are not there either. is it possible that some cars did not come wired for rear speakers? this car did not come with the cargo area speaker mounts, which points to that possibility, but all the cargo area trim was all pulled apart back there, indicating that someone might have removed the mounts.
rear speaker wire routing?

Re: rear speaker wire routing?
Looking at the pix of yours - it did not have the rear deck option (was standard only on SR5s), so only 2 front speakers.

i didn't realize the rear deck was an option on DLX's. that's really, really budget. how crappy! guess it's time to pick up some wire and run it back there. thanks, tom.

Hey, now... We SR5 elitists had valyoubul stuf to protec, so we's needed the cargo cover, unlike you Frugal Frannies.
Plus, we have a more refined ear, so the audio is more appreciated than you tin-ear peeps.
Now, I know you used to have an SR5, so we understand how one's resources can change...

Re: rear speaker wire routing?
haha. don't worry, this POS is almost done and it will have a very decent stereo once it's all said and done. i got some good new stuff on sale, grand total of $140 for CD/1/8" front input/USB front input stereo, 6.5" speaks for the back, and 4" speaks for the front. the deck and rear speaks are sony, the front speaks are JVC. i'd put a sub in but the girl who is buying it decided to forgo that option.
what i don't understand is why toyota would bother putting the rear speaker wires at the stereo end and not the speaker end. it's not cost effective to put something in that doesn't get used, and the deleted speaker end of the wire illustrates they realized that, so it's baffling. and where do those wires from the stereo go then? i guess they just head up into the dash and are taped off somewhere. i'll try looking a little more though just in case, just to see if they didn't change the speaker wire colour on the way to the cargo area.

Re: rear speaker wire routing?
well well, guess what i found a few days ago.

that is the plug and wiring for right rear speaker, which was tucked away behind the rear cargo trim. i had removed the 10 mm bolts and plastic trim plugs, pulled the trim out a bit, and noticed this plug not connected to anything. i hooked up some speakers to it while the stereo was on and BAM, it worked. i'm not sure about the polarities of each wire but i assume that the ones with the black or white stripes are the negative ones. so for the right rear speakers, it looks like black is positive and black w/ white stripe is negative.

on the left side, i think blue w/ orange stripe is positive and blue w/ black stripe is negative.

i tested the speakers out with the wires hooked up both ways but they sounded the same. also, the speaker looked like it bounced outward on loud bass while wired either way so i really don't know. i looked at the wiring diagrams in the FSM and they're don't mention polarity. this is still a good starting point though. i cut off the plugs, spliced more speaker wire on, and will run it through the plastic access doors for the brake light bulbs.
*edit* i just came across this relevant info in another stereo thread (https://tercel4wd.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=5116) which confirms my suspicions:
"REAR SPEAKERS
Driver side (Left) - Blue with orange stripe (POSITIVE) and blue with black stripe (NEGATIVE)
Passenger side (Right) - Solid black (POSITIVE) and Black with white stripe (NEGATIVE)"
in other news, masuku was very happy to spend some quality time with daddy while he worked on the car.
